Today I happened to be flipping through the radio stations. Most of the time I grab a CD or my mp3, but I didn’t happen to have them with me in the car. While Dave, Kool Fm and The Beat are all common radio stations I’ve listened to – I happened to come across a new one: 88.3 CJIQ. It broadcasts from the Global Television tower in Paris, Ontario and provides a “living lab” for students at Conestoga College who are in Media Studies programs. The station officially launched on January 8, 2001 – and I still can’t believe I haven’t heard of it until now! While specializing in New Rock they also have a variety of other genres on special block programs featured different times during the week. These include Reggae on Vibes Radio, New Age, Easy Listening and Classical on Songs from A Quiet Place, Classic Rock on TNT and Hip Hop & R&B on shows like Souljah Session, The Lockdown and Flavaz. They even provide music for people like me who love the heavy side of rock! Tune in Thursday nights at eight to The Punk Rock Academy. Later listen to Armed and Amped, and to tap off the night kick off with Anger Management. This station has definitely caught my ears, why not tune in and maybe it will catch yours too. 88.3 CJIQ, The Tri-Cities New Rock!
